A matriarch is vital to the survival of the herd. It is usually the oldest, largest, female with her oldest daughter in place for the throne. A matriarch's role as the leader requires her to be compassionate to not only her own herd, but members of other herds as well. She must make wise decisions on where and when to move the herd for food and water as well as teach other females how to care for the young. If another elephant is successful in doing this overpowers the existing matriarch, it is possible for that one to replace the older cow. "Overpowering" is not a physical action, it may simply be the challenging of her authority, or a decision on the part of the rest of the herd to elect a certain one as leader. We have much to learn from the animal kindom.
I do not remember a time I was not creating art. When I was a little girl, I was always the first in my family to awaken and it was in those early morning hours I would immerse myself in my art.
